F1: TV viewers 'gradually accepting quieter F1' by Virgil Ellipse
25th Apr 2014
A survey has revealed that Formula One's TV audience is rising again after a fall at the start of the season, widely believed to have been a direct result of the quieter 2014-spec cars.

The number of people tuning in for the second race of the year was dramatically lower than for the season-opener in Australia but the Bahrain and Chinese grands prix both saw a steadily increasing audience.

A spokesman for the research team which carried out the survey said that respondents had given a number of reasons for their renewed interest in the sport.

"Some people said that with a race as thrilling as Bahrain, it didn't really matter what the engines sound like," he explained, "and a lot of people said that they were gradually getting used to the new noise.

"But mostly it seems to be that with the new quieter engines, you can hear every word of Sebastardan Vettel's race engineer telling him to move over for his team-mate. And people appeared to respond very well to that."
