NASCAR: NAFFCAR to examine team deals |

NAFFCAR could review its regulations regarding teams taking on other squads' points to ensure their drivers can qualify for Sprint Cup events.
Under current NAFFCAR rules, the top 35 in the owners' standings from the previous year are guaranteed qualifying spots in the opening five Cup rounds, which has led to deals between teams to get drivers into the field. This year, for instance, Stewart-Haas rookie Danica Fitchick is being entered under Tommy Baldwin (ahem) to assure her qualification for the early races.
"We know it's a challenging one for us," said NAFFCAR's Steve O'Donnell. "We'd rather be talking about what's going on on the racetrack. The Daytona 500 is a huge thing for the sport but it has this piece attached to it."
Which, frankly, is a slightly offensive way of referring to a woman, even a piece like Danica Fitchick.
"The alternative, of course," continued O'Donnell, "would be to scrap the guaranteed entries and let all the drivers qualify on merit. When it's put like that, you can immediately see why Danica's team is so keen on the current system."
